The existing bridge serves the traffic of the rural road Lemesos-Pafos over the Kourris river. Within the framework of the new development plan of the region the necessity of extension of the bridge cross-section arrived.
The existing bridge deck has a width of 7.00m, while it consists of seven spans of length 10.45m, 12.60m, 12.50m, 12.60m, 12.50m, 12.50m and 10.45m. The bridge deck has a beam-slab form which is constructed by reinforced concrete.
The modification of the existing deck is achieved through the reinforcement of the existing beams and deck via reinforced concrete jacket and the construction of equivalent cross-section for the width extension which will be based on new piers parallel to the existing ones.
Due to the inadequacy of the existing unreinforced piers against earthquake design loads, the new deck is connected to the new footings via elastomeric bearings with restraints on the transverse direction and on the existing piers via sliding bearings.
